Lisa (Simpsons (Jakks Pacific)) Review
Lisa
Simpsons (Jakks Pacific) (Jakks Pacific)Jakks Pacific's Simpsons line only hit stores back in the summer, and already we have plenty of figures and products. The second wave of 5" figures came out last month or so, and they've been slowly but surely hitting major retailers. One of the figures in the wave, Homer, is just a restock from the previous wave, but the other three are new: Lisa Simpson, Krusty the Clown, and Moe Szyslak.

First up is Lisa, another instance of a character nearly getting a Super7 figure only for it to be cancelled and Jakks do them instead. She also already received a smaller-scale figure before this larger counterpart, but the 5" scale version looks a little off. The face appears a little wider than it should be, and like Homer, it was a pretty rough transition. I assume most fans won't have as much of an issue with it, and face aside, it looks pretty good. Like Bart, Lisa often gets more spikes added to her hair whenever translated to 3D, and the hair looks great here. She has clean paint for the eyelashes and pupils, though a bit of a zombielike stare is going on with her, similar to some of the other figures.

Marge's fashion sense has apparently inspired Lisa's own, as she wears a similar outfit with a pearl necklace, dress covering most of the torso and legs, and red shoes. As with what we've seen out of these figures, the clothes are cast in a separate color plastic then glued to the yellow plastic for the collarbone area. The shoes are a different story, as the skin is painted onto red plastic, but the work is clean aside from it not perfectly lining up with the sculpt. The proportions of the body are good, but the hands look pretty undersized, and I can't see her holding any accessories other than what she comes with. Lisa stands around 3 1/4" tall which, while out of scale with the adults, is how tall Bart should've been. Speaking of which, she scales perfectly with her brother.

Next up is Krusty, and most merch of him gives up a big, goofy smile. Jakks, however, went for a more subdued, but still happy, look. I feel it fits him well, as he's usually not too jovial off-camera (and even on-camera he's indifferent). The portrait is also some of the best sculpting from the line so far, looking a little nicer than Super7, and the detail on the clown hair is great. At a little bit over 5" tall, Krusty has his standard outfit on, with his big clown shoes, and there's not much to talk about there, given how I already covered a Krusty figure earlier this year. I will say the colors are bolder than the Super7 Krusty, and they're pretty accurate to the show. The pupils are the only painted colors on him, and they're centered fine.

Rounding out the trio is Moe, and he has a more unique design, with the big brow, overbite, and pig nose. The head reminds me a lot of the Super7 version, albeit with a few differences, and while I prefer the latter, this version looks pretty good. These are the same scale as Playmates' Simpsons line, mind you, and this Moe just looks much better than his 2001 counterpart. Also, I did put him on the Tavern set Playmates did, and he fits perfectly on there (though it did feel a little too small for other Jakks figures).

Moe is shorter than the other adults in the line so far at around the 4 3/4" mark, his hunched-over posture being part of the reason. His bartender's apron has been translated into toy form a couple different ways, as Playmates had it sculpted onto the figure, and Super7 made it a piece of removable fabric. Jakks made it both sculpted and removable, being a somewhat rubbery material that pegs together in the back. Getting it on and off is no hassle, and the material keeps it from getting in the way of movement. The belt, unlike Super7's Moe, is solid, unpainted black plastic, but this is a mass market figure rather than a made-to-order one, so it's no big deal.

The first wave proved Jakks could make these designs fully posable while preserving the sculpt, and wave two poses the same, if not better. All three have a swivel neck, swivel/hinge shoulders and wrists, ball-jointed waist, hips, and ankles, hinged elbows and knees, and swivel biceps. Yes, Lisa has bicep cuts, but they blend in with the sculpt so well they're almost seamless. Her legs aren't that great though, as the hips feel a bit hard to move and are hindered a bit by the dress, and the ankles don't so much tilt as they do swivel. Nevertheless, these figures move great and can achieve plenty of poses, but there's still room for improvement. Ball-jointed necks would be great for certain characters, and the legs need some twisting motion, maybe revolver-esque joints for the knees like the elbows?

Again, don't expect as much accessories as the Playmates line, but each character comes with fitting extras. Lisa only gets one in her saxaphone, and the handle on it helps her to hold it, but getting it into her small hands can be a struggle. The sax itself has a semi-metallic finish and show-accurate design, but is lacking in color. The issue is more noticeable when you compare it to Playmates' Lisa, whose sax had painted details. Still, it's a crucial inclusion for her. Krusty's seemingly sole accessory is actually two, as it's a microphone that can be removed from its stand. Both can be held in his hands fine, and while something more Krusty-ish like a pie or seltzer bottle would've been better, this is a good reminder of his short-lived stand-up career ("Don't you hate pants?"). Moe has the most accessories here, as I'm counting his apron as one since it's removable. He also gets his bar rag and telephone, both of which can be held fine, and the phone fits perfectly with the aforementioned Tavern. I do wonder if we'll get some beer mugs at a later point depending of if Jakks is allowed to do so.

Will it's a bit of a bummer that this wave only got three new figures, they're still pretty fun and well-made, and add well to who we've already gotten. The next wave looks pretty varied, as while I was expecting Marge, Maggie, and Milhouse, Lenny and especially softball Homer were unexpected, and now that they're getting the core family out of the way, it can open the door to more B-listers and episodic figures.
