He-Man (Holiday) (Masters of the Universe (Super7)) Review
He-Man (Holiday)
Masters of the Universe (Super7) (Super7)Christmas is drawing very near, and action figures and other toys are hot commodities right now. Often around this time, companies will put out special holiday-themed products, such as Super7. When they got the MOTU license, that included Mattel passing the Classics line over to them, and with it, the "Club Grayskull" sub-line of cartoon-accurate characters. Everyone knows about the He-Man/She-Ra crossover Christmas special, so it gave S7 the chance to do a festive version of Eternia's hero.

Unlike the cardbacks Classics got, the Club Grayskull figures came in window boxes, and for this version of He-Man, it was more unique. There's all over the ground and on the castle, and one spine of the box has an Orko snowman. The back doesn't have much more than a unique illustration, and it looks great. Mine was opened and already played with or displayed, hence why I didn't have any tape or twist ties with it, but the condition of the figure was still good, and even then, it's easy to get opened up and out.

Even with the move to Super7, the Classics line was still done by Four Horsemen Studios, and they did just as good with the Filmation designs as they did the toy designs. Toon He-Man isn't too much different from toy He-Man, it's mainly just his hair. The portrait looks very accurate to the cartoon, and he has a friendly grin as opposed to the tense expression of the regular Classics version, and it's also different from the other Club Grayskull He-Man. The hair is a piece of soft rubber glued onto the scalp, and there's a Santa hat sculpted as part of it, hence why this is a "Holiday" He-Man. The hat could've been a separate piece, but then it'd just double as a regular He-Man.

Standing 7" tall, He-Man reuses a good amount of tooling from the standard Classics figure, but the clothing is a bit more simplistic than the prior version. The harness is another rubber piece, though the sheath on the back is tougher plastic. His fur speedo (best way to put it) is also a pliable material, as not to get in the way of leg movement. The paint on the wrist cuffs and the aforementioned pieces is fairly clean and solid, aside from a bit of bleed and uneven edges. The body is very glossy, but Classics was like that too, and I believe the unpainted skin helps bring out the musculature more, so I don't have much of an issue with it.

The articulation on MOTU Classics was what influenced movement for everything Ultimate/Deluxe Super7 did after it, and they also improved a bit on the Mattel offerings. He-Man has a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles, hinged elbows and knees, swivel biceps, waist, thighs, and shins, and an ab crunch. The wrists were already an improvement Club Grayskull had over Classics, as those only had swivel wrists, but the ankle joints are S7's own upgrade, tilting and rocking better than Mattel's work. Overall, the figure moves great, aside from some limited range in the head, and you can achieve some cool poses. He-Man's only accessory is his power sword, albeit with a candy cane deco to fit the holiday theme. I would've liked some extra hands with him, at least a pair of vertically-hinged grips for better weapon poses.

I enjoy it when companies do unique, odd, and specially-themed figures, and this He-Man is one of those. Sure, it's a little low effort, as all they did was repaint his sword and stick a hat on him, but he's still well-made, and has quickly become one of my all-time favorite figures. If you can find a good deal on him, you'll want to pick up this guy as a Christmas decoration, or if you want to save money, just find or make a Santa hat scaled to fit one of your He-Man figures already in your collection.
