Wreck-Gar (Transformers (Super7)) Review
Wreck-Gar
Transformers (Super7) (Super7)1986 was an important year for Transformers, as not only did the franchise receive its first feature film, but introduced some new characters, albeit at the cost of characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron getting scrapped or reformatted. Everyone knows the likes of Hot Rod and Galvatron, but who can forget Wreck-Gar, the Junkion whose vocabulary is sourced entirely from television? Not Super7, hence why he's the only movie-introduced character to get an Ultimate.

Wreck-Gar may be one of the few Transformers to have facial hair, sporting a thin mustache and beard, along with the antennae on top of his head. It's a pretty good likeness of his cartoon design, with all the proper details and clean paint, but his face is a bit more yellow than it should he. I like how his face isn't just the usual stoic expression seen on these figures by default, and instead has an open mouth, spouting off yet another televised slogan. Then there's the toy-inspired head, which is blocky and orange, there's no facial hair, and sculpted handlebars on the back, definitely different from the regular portrait. The paint's pretty clean on it as well, and the heads will swap fine even without heat, but you'll want to tug on it from the side rather than pop it straight off, otherwise you may pull the joint out of the neck.

At about 7 1/2" tall, Wreck-Gar's body is mainly composed of orange-red, brown, and yellow colors, and they look fine here, thanks to the more matte finish. The hands are a little glossy, but nothing too bad. It bears repeating that what's yellow on the figure is supposed to be tan, and the renders even showed them as such, so not sure why it changed to something less accurate. The tires that go on his left arm and leg are separate pieces in the box, and they fit in the arm tightly, but the leg not so well. Be warned, there's a lot of pointy spikes on the arms, legs, and wheels, and he can hurt you unless you know how to handle him carefully.

Although he isn't able to turn into a bike, this Wreck-Gar still has plenty of articulation, with a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles, swivel waist and thighs, hinged knees, and an ab crunch. There's a couple limitations; the ankles can't do much, and the shoulder joints are on the torso rather than the arms, so they move a little awkwardly. It doesn't mean he can't achieve plenty of poses, thankfully, and all of the joints move with no issue. In addition to all that, the pouches on his waist can flip up to get out of the way of the legs, and his abdomen can open up, allowing you to store some of the smaller accessories inside.

Speaking of accessories, Wreck-Gar has eight hands to make use of: two closed, two gripping, two trigger grips, an open right, and a peace sign left. They swap easily, but you'll want to heat up the gripping hands to fit the accessories inside. He also has his blade-like axe, both in its toy and cartoon designs, as well as a toy-accurate rifle. The weapons look great, but again, heat is needed to get them into the hands. To round things out, there's a couple extras coming from the movie: two energon goodies/sticks, a waxing cloth (real cloth, BTW), a wax bottle (thought it was a communicator at first), and his little TV, showing a ninja movie/show on its little screen. You talk TV?

I got Wreck-Gar with low expectations, but he turned out to be one of the best figures in the line for me. I was able to find like twenty or so different ways to display him thanks to the articulation and accessories, and it shows that Transformers don't always have to transform to be fun. I think I said this already, but it's a shame Super7 gave up on this line, because I feel if they did a few more characters and put the same effort into them as they did Wreck-Gar, they'll be able to keep it going a little longer.
