Starscream (Transformers (Super7)) Review
Starscream
Transformers (Super7) (Super7)After his (well-deserved) death in the G1 movie, Starscream somehow returned as a ghost robot, possessing various Decepticons in plans of restoring his mortal body. He eventually succeeded, and was last seen helplessly tumbling through space. Because of that, it's no surprise that Super7 would follow up their Ultimate Ghost of Starscream with his still-online version.

The benefit of having already done a Starscream in this line before allows Super7 to simply reuse the ghost mold, just changing the paint and plastic. When covering the previous version, I said Starscream's head looked off, but it's more spot-on here. It's possible they touched up on it a bit, but I compared the two and saw no real difference, so I guess it just looks nicer here. Like before, Starscream has three heads to choose from - neutral, smirking, and toy-accurate - all with good paint work.

The ghost Starscream was transparent plastic with injected glitter, but the living Starscream is composed of bold, solid colors. Standing about 7 3/4" tall, the colors make him look far better than his ghost, and the paint is mostly clean all around. The plastic also feels different due to him being opaque now, and he's still hollow, but should hold up well. His right shoulder popped apart on me when I was playing around with him, but it thankfully holds together. The articulation is the same as before, with a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles, swivel biceps, null rays, waist, and thighs, hinged elbows and knees, ab crunch, and ball/hinge wings. The joints don't move all that different, but the ball pegs for the wings are much tighter.

The ghost of Starscream only came with three different heads and three sets of hands: closed, gun grip, and open. They're all reused here, but some new extras are thrown in as well, with the most iconic being Megatron in his gun mode. It looks very good, with some metallic paint, and going alongside it is a solid white blaster from the cartoon. The gripping hands are a hard plastic, however, so you'll need to use a hair dryer or heat gun on them to get the guns in. Also included is a filled energon cube (not as good looking as the one Megatron had, though) and a claw that the hands can be swapped out for (you will need heat to pop it in). I wish some more accessories from the cartoon were packed in, such as a badge-holding hand, a drill, and that weird energy slingshot from the first episodes, but I'm happy with what's here.

The Ghost of Starscream was a unique figure for Super7 to do, especially in just the first wave (though it wasn't the first toy of that look), but the living version is much more enjoyable, thanks to clean, bold colors and some new accessories. It seems like the Transformers Ultimates line will be ending after next wave (if there was a wave 6, it would've gone up by now), but I'm glad S7 was able to get out the regular version of one of the key characters before they were done.
