Casey Jones Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca)Having already done the cartoon and movie versions of Casey Jones, it's no surprise that the Mirage version was next. Although he's been out for a while, I didn't pick it up until I hit up Best Buy recently in hopes of finding their exclusives. Better to get something than nothing. As with any incarnation of the character, Casey wears a hockey mask to conceal his identity. Actually, I think it's just to make him look cool. The mask has a blocky appearance, with a few scuffs here and there, letting you know he's been in a few fights. His wild, messy hair, rather than being solid black, has some brown wash to make it pop more. An unmasked portrait is included as well, with a gritted teeth expression fitting to the character. The figure is sculpted by Josh Sutton, with good attention paid to how the character should look. The paint is clean with no noticeable slip-ups, and the usual comic "ink" lines are present. Standing around 6 3/4" tall, Casey wears a shirt with torn-off sleeves, sweatpants, and hi-top sneakers. The colors are based off the IDW Color Classics instead of the original colored editions, with a white shirt and brown sneakers. I don't mind the color scheme, as it looks nice and bold, with very clean paint (for those who want a red shirt Casey, there's one coming soon I believe). There's sculpted musculature matching up with the outlines on his body, as well as the wrinkles in his pants. Basically, he looks perfect. The usual articulation is present for Casey, showing that the TMNT figures continue to be NECA's most posable. He gets a barbell head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, and ankles, swivel biceps, waist, thighs, and shins, double-hinged elbows and knees, and ball hips. You can get some good range out of the joints, but it's not without its issues. The biceps were stuck tight on mine, and required both freezer time and hot water to get them moving. The hips are really snug on the ball, and while they'll go out to the sides just fine, they don't want to kick forward or back most of the time, especially the left leg, which just wants to stress the joint. If it wasn’t for that issue, Casey would be a lot more fun to play with. For accessories, Casey gets his usual weaponry: two baseball bats, a golf club, and a hockey stick. The weapons get great texture and paint, and will look great with the figure. In addition to fists, there's a pair of gripping hands designed to hold the bats and stick, and a tighter right grip for the club. There's a golf bag, of course, and it's big enough to hold all the weaponry. Lastly, there's the unmasked head I mentioned earlier, which swaps with the regular portrait easily, and a mask by itself. Casey is a release I'm mostly glad to have finally gotten - he'd be a more enjoyable figure if it wasn't for those crappy hips - but if you don't have that issue, you'll find that he's a fun figure to play with, and a nice addition to your collection of mask-wearing, sports-obsessed vigilantes. - 9/20/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
