Ghost of Starscream (Transformers (Super7)) Review
Ghost of Starscream
Transformers (Super7) (Super7)It took me this long, but I finally completed the first wave of Transformers Ultimates. It's a good thing I waited, too, cause I was able to get this for cheap off Entertainment Earth.

Starscream, the only other A-lister in the wave alongside Optimus, stands around 7 3/4" tall, or just 7 1/2" if we're not counting those things on the sides of his head. The default head has a smirk on it, definitely reflective of his personality. If that doesn't suit you, there's an extra head with a neutral look. Both heads are pretty off, however, looking more compressed than they should. Surprisingly, Super7 threw in a third head which isn't based off the cartoon, but rather comes from the original toy. It's a pretty nice recreation, though it seems a little small on the body, and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that.

This Starscream is unique as it's not a regular Starscream, but rather his ghost. Being one of many who went offline in the movie, Starscream managed to return as a ghost in two episodes, before getting his body back and being last seen tumbling through space. Super7 replicated his ghostly look by casting him in translucent plastic with injected glitter. I feel they went overboard with the glitter, but it's a cool concept. In contrast to the squished head, the rest of the body looks spot-on, and the wings and null-rays can be removed if you wish. There aren't much painted areas on this figure, but the few spots that are are pretty clean.

Starscream's articulation isn't all that different from the others, and his hollow plastic has no real effect on his poseability. The head is a ball-joint that doesn't have a huge amount of range, but that can be forgiven due to his design. He has swivel/hinge shoulders that don't go all the way out, but the added hinges on the body give them more range, and he also has swivel biceps, hinged elbows, and swivel/hinge wrists. He has an ab crunch and swivel waist, but the cockpit on his chest restricts motion. Below those are swivel/hinge hips and ankles, swivel thighs, and hinged knees. The wings are ball/hinge joints, and the null-rays on the arms swivel. Starscream can manage a couple good poses, but his design restricts things a bit.

When it comes to accessories, Starscream isn't very outfitted. Getting three different heads is nice, and they all swap easily. There's also three pairs of hands, including fists, grips, and open hands. The right open hand has splayed fingers, while the left is more of a grasping pose. The extra heads and hands are all he has, no weapons or anything. One of Metroplex's eyes would've been a nice inclusion, but this guy is fine as is.

Unsurprisingly, Super7 is putting out a regular Starscream that uses the same mold, but has more accessories. It's supposed to be out summer 2023, but given Super7 and their long manufacturing times, 2024 sounds more likely for him. Not only that, but they recently announced a third version that is based off his coronation scene from the movie. More specifically, when Galvatron slags him. He's grayscaled, has a crown, shoulder pads, and posable cape, and instead of a toy-inspired head, he has a half-disintegrated head with a look of agony on him. Definitely not a look that's been done in plastic before.

Ghost of Starscream isn't the best figure in the first wave - Banzai-Tron takes that honor - but it's pretty interesting that they would do this version before a regular Screamer. They did a good job with the ghostly appearance, though the wish the heads were more accurate. Knowing that this mold is being recycled twice gives me hope for Skywarp and Thundercracker in the future, how ever long that takes.
