Foot Soldier (Glow) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)When the TMNT Ultimates line was just starting, the Foot Soldier was one of the first figures I've gotten from it. I was impressed quite a bit by it, thanks to its great sculpt and plenty of accessories. While not perfect, it along with the SDCC glow-in-the-dark Baxter gave me a good idea what to expect from Super7. Earlier this year, Super7 put up a glow-in-the-dark "Footbot Blue" version of the Foot for pre-order, but with one catch: you could only get it through Super7's online store, which meant crazy shipping. I bit because the original was one of my favorites from the line, and it just arrived recently. These were originally meant to ship next year, so it's nice to get them early. The packaging is rather unique on this figure, but it's similar to the glow Baxter that kicked off the line. The colors are blue as opposed to green or purple, and some parts of it glow as well. The character bio and general design are the same, though. Standing about 7", the Foot Soldier reuses the mold from the original figure, but the colors are all different. The torso, arms, and feet are cast in glow-in-the-dark plastic, and I'll admit the glow isn't very strong. Holding the figure up to a light source for a bit helps the feature work better. Other than that, the rest of the colors are different. The head and hood have a bold, bluish tint to them, with glowing eyes, light blue pants and forearm guards, and metallic straps. The one thing not turned blue is the Foot symbol on its forehead, which is red like always. Since this is the same sculpt as before, the articulation is the same as well. The ball-jointed head and neck combo is nice, but doesn't seem to work as well as the original. The arms have swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists, along with bicep swivels, and the elbows are just as stuck tight as the original release, and hot water was needed once more. The waist is a simple swivel, and below it are swivel/hinge hips, knees, and ankles, and swivel thighs and boots. I had no issues with the hips or thighs this time around, but the knees are a little tight. The accessories are the same as well, or at least mostly. There are five pairs of hands: gripping, closed, chopping, relaxed, and ninja pose. They swap easily and fit tightly, though the joints are a little sticky on them. There's also a knife, a "shell biter,” an "electro-shock mace," a rifle, a blaster, and two shurikens, all cast in the same glowing plastic. The one thing not carried over from the original is the weapons sprue, and I can't say I'm going to miss it; it was a useless hunk of plastic anyways. Overall, I find this to be a pretty gimmicky release. It's the same figure, but cast in glowing plastic and without the pointless weapons rack, and you're paying $10 more than the original plus whatever shipping S7 wants to charge you. I will say that it's a nice variant, but the wish they fixed the tight elbows and gave it a stronger glow. As I said before, this was a Super7 exclusive, so if you want one, your best chance at it is through eBay. - 12/17/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
