Kessler Werewolf American Werewolf In London (Neca)One of the lesser-known horror movies from the early 80s, An American Werewolf in London is undoubtedly a cult classic, thanks to its nice blend of horror and comedy. I will admit the ending is pretty anti-climatic, but a great film nonetheless. NECA's been holding onto the license since last year, first giving us the "nightmare demon" before the Kessler wolf itself. I got the wolf a while back, and now it's review time! The box is a lot bigger than the usual NECA packaging, but the wolf is a big figure, so it makes sense. Just expect it to take up quite a bit of space if you're one of those weirdos who puts your figures back in the box when not playing with them (like me). We got some really cool artwork on the front as well, courtesy of Justin Osbourn. It's definitely better when NECA uses new artwork instead of preexisting ones. If I recall, the wolf wasn't shown in full much in the film, and he was usually obscured by darkness. Kyle Windrix is credited as the sculptor, and he managed to recreate the beast well in plastic. Standing about 7 1/2" long and 5" tall, the wolf has nicely textured fur, and the paint helps adds some more realism to it, with a blend of browns and grays. The fur around the neck is a soft plastic "collar", so that it doesn't get in the way of articulation (more on that below). The head looks great as well, but the best part is the paint, having bloodshot eyes and wash on the gums and teeth. He was originally going to have an articulated jaw, but since it threw off the sculpt too much, NECA opted to give him an alternate head with a roaring open mouth instead. The real nice touch with it are the bloodstained gums and teeth, as if he just mauled some poor sap. All the more fun displaying him attacking your other figures. If you've read my Bronx review from not long ago, the American werewolf has similar articulation. He has ball-joints at the head, neck, and midsection, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, hocks, and ankles, and ball-socket hips with thigh swivels. They all move well, and the hinges are nice and tight, though getting him in a nice, stable pose can be difficult. No accessories are included here aside from the extra head, but it pops onto the joint easily. Some dismembered limbs that could fit in his mouth would've been perfect, though. I don't think we've ever gotten a figure of the Kessler wolf until now, and NECA managed to do him justice. He's popping up at plenty of places, but Target is where you can get him for the best deal. If we can get David and Jack at some point, that would be perfect. - 8/23/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
