Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics Reviews
Triceraton Zog
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.70 stars by RMaster007
While the TMNT cartoon line NECA's been doing is fun, I feel the relaunched Mirage line is shaping up to be my current favorite, thanks to the great sculpts and unique character selection. We've already gotten a few Triceratons in the toon line, but the Mirage line has one that tops all three of them. The Triceratons appeared in a short story arc early on in the comic, but one of them, Zog, reappeared in the "Return to New York" three-parter. The sculpt for him was provided by Gurjeet Singh, in what appears to be his first work for NECA, and he nailed it. The skin has a scaly texture like a dinosaur would have, along with various bumps and warts. He looks very menacing with red eyes and gritted teeth, and the hinged jaw allows for more expressiveness to the sculpt. The paint on the skin...[See More]
Shredder Clones
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
It's Shredder! Er… Shredders. In the original Mirage TMNT comics, the three-part "Return to New York" arc saw the four turtles returning to their home to defeat the Shredder once and for all, but standing in their way were three inhuman Shredder clones. One of the clones, which had big claws for hands, was done a while back as a figure by NECA as part of the second (and more than likely last) series of Lootcrates. The other two, thankfully, are a regular release, showing up at Target first before hitting everywhere else. Yes, this release includes two clones in one, so I'll start with the big guy. This clone has a chunky upper body with a squat head, but it also has four arms rather than two. The figure stands an average height of 7" tall, and is sculpted by someone whose name we...[See More]
Renet (Brown Clothes)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007
The return of NECA's TMNT Mirage line feels like a blast from the past, adding on to figures that were released many years ago, so it makes sense that a time traveler joins the line. The plucky apprentice Renet, as far as I'm concerned, appeared in only the eighth issue of the comic, which for some reason had fellow indie comic character Cerebus the Aardvark. Renet's sculpt is done by Jon Matthews, and her head is very accurate to how she appeared in-print. The default head has a neutral expression, and her cowl pulled up to cover her forehead. Her funky headwear, with a clock in the middle, is a separate piece, and it fits on pretty firmly most of the time. She gets an alternate head without the cowl, revealing her tomboyish hair underneath, and making her a bit more expressive. The...[See More]
Utrom
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
It's been over ten years since NECA's original Mirage TMNT line, and last year saw its return with plenty of characters never done during the original run of figures, such as the Utrom, which was to the original comics what the Krang are to the franchise in general, except not evil. The Utroms hid themselves in androids resembling humans, and this is what is underneath the faux skin and clothes. Sculpted by Brodie Perkins and Josh Sutton, the mechanical details are carried over well into plastic. The skull-like head is complemented by an extra portrait that's suffered battle damage: the right eye is dangling out, and a chunk of the head has been ripped over to reveal the wires underneath. The paint work is nice, with clean black lines, and some yellow outside the eyes to create a glowing...[See More]
Claw Shredder
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Exclusives
Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007
(This review was written back in June 2022, so it may sound a little dated) It was last October that I reviewed the first of LootCrate and NECA's series two TMNT crates, which happened to be a letdown (shirt was good, though), and I hoped the second crate would come soon and be better. But nothing showed up, and me and everyone else who purchased these feared we'd never get them. Nobody knows what happened to prevent any more crates from shipping, but apparently it got worked out, because the next one is finally here. One catch, though; the second crate was supposed to be video game-related, but we got the third crate, which is themed after the original Mirage comics, instead. Eh, I'm not complaining. As long as we got something, I'm good. The crate uses the same decal as the previous...[See More]
Fugitoid
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
Anyone who’s familiar with the NECA TMNT line should know that it didn’t start with the cartoon or movie adaptations, but of course, the original comics that started it all. The four turtles were released in their original Mirage designs back in 2008, and they’re considered some of the company’s best work. Nowadays, a whole set of them can cost you up to a thousand dollars, and some have settled on just getting bootlegs of them. NECA is well aware of how popular they were, and they already put out a Foot Clan four-pack and a LootCrate-exclusive Shredder years after those initial figures, but now they’re officially reviving the line. The first character here is Fugitoid, a character that was actually created before the Turtles. Fitting choice to kick it off, isn’t it? The original figures...[See More]
Leonardo
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Clam Shells
Rated 5.00 stars by Mint Condition Customs
First of all, I'd like to say that the NECA TMNT figures are easily the best Turtles figures I've ever seen. They're so awesome. I'll be reviewing them as a whole today, instead of just the Leonardo figure. Now onto picking them apart(critically, not literally). SCULPT - ***** (out of 5) The sculpt on this figure is amazing. The likeness to the original comics is uncanny, and I love the different plastics they used to complete the figure. The body (arms, legs, head) are of the normal plastic we'd expect a figure to be made of, but his chest is made of a very soft flexible plastic to keep from preventing his poseability. And the shell is made from a very hard and durable plastic which makes perfect sense considering he's...well, a turtle. I love it. And each head is sculpted differently...[See More]
