Street Fighter (SOTA) Reviews
Blanka
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 2
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
While we've gotten plenty of great Street Fighter figures in recent years, ranging from the many characters and variants by Storm overseas, to the more recent, cheaper but just as enjoyable line by Jada. Before they came along, a now-defunct company known as SOTA Toys (who's president Jerry Macaluso is returning to the figure world with Syndicate Collectibles) presented the world with a truly great Street Fighter line. I've heard a lot of good things about it, but it took me until three days ago to finally get something from the line. The figure comes packaged in a plastic clamshell, something you'd see more often in the 2000s than today, and it also means you'll need an exacto knife or scissors to get it open. The graphics are pretty good, with a blue background and cross-sell for other...[See More]
Ryu
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 1
Rated 4.50 stars by Henchmen4Hire
Ryu stands 6 inches tall in his fashionably tattered clothing. I'm still not sure what the story is behind the ragged edges, I'm guessing it's to show how simple his way of life is or to show-off his experience. I'm not entirely sold on the head sculpt, partly because it doesn't look exactly like Ryu (I'd say around 90% accurate though) and partly because the head looks a little too small. This is most likely an optical illusion created by the gigantic hands and feet, lol. Yeah, the body is the same as Ken's, even the hands are the same, meaning they're interchangable so you can give Ryu Ken's "thumbs-up" and pointing hands, hah. Ryu comes along with a set of open and fisted hands, two heads (one passive, one raging, very bi-polar!), also a white hitch-hiking laundry-bag, which is a fun...[See More]
Akuma
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 4
Rated 4.90 stars by Collector1
Akuma, the very name means evil, is arguably one of the most powerful warriors on Earth. A master of the Dark Hado and the deadly Shun Goku Satsu literally Instant H-e-l-l Murder, Akuma is a truly dangerous foe to engage! SOTA toys brings us this awesome titan of raw, surging power, in its fourth wave, or Round as its called, of highly detailed and articulated Street Fighter action figures. The Akuma action figure featured for this review is the black gi and white hair version which depicts the player two colors. Akuma, from the bottom of his feet too the tip of his hair, six and five eighths inches tall, so he is pretty tall. His skin is painted, that is right painted a tanned or bronze color and lightly shaded with just a hint of papricka. Ah, stop you're moaning, it's my review! I...[See More]
Vega
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 2
Rated 4.50 stars by Collector1
After cranking out more reviews than I thought had in me, I found myself in the hold of a number of Realm Credits. Shrugging, I decided to splurge and bought Vega from the store. After a brief period of confusion and embarrassment involving a backspace key, a fist fight, oranges and bestiality (not entirely sure how that one got in there), I received it on July 02, or today if you will. After taking a moment to savor the unique smell of this toy, I tore the package open with my hunting knife, careful not to damage the flimsy little piece of paper that makes the back. Once out of the package I was floored by the feel of Vega's hair. Instead of the stiff, hard plastic I had expected, I found it made of what I believe vynl. The second thing that amazed me was the detail of the sculpt...[See More]
Sakura
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 3
Rated 4.70 stars by Henchmen4Hire
This is a pretty generic school-girl figure, Sakura doesn't have any distinctive traits like Guile's hair or Cammy's gauntlets, it's still a fun addition to your collection though. Sakura is about 5.25 inches tall, but still fully poseable! The likeness to the character is pretty good, but something about it is just off. The figure has great big cat-like eyes, but it's not as cute as the animated picture. The skirt and shirt are flexible like Chin-Li's suit so they don't impeded movement. The paint is kinda messy on this figure, especially on the flexible parts, it'll vary from fig-to-fig of course. Accessories include: 2 heads (screaming and smiling), backpack (functional!), camera, small books, an extra shoe (???), and 5 hands in various positions to show-off her youthful vigor, hah....[See More]
Birdie
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 4
Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire
What the hell...I'm not going to even try to guess what this guy's story is, his appearance alone is enough to buy him. Birdie is about 7.5 inches tall. He's a beast! He's bulky and huge too, mountainous!, the head looks puny compared to the body. There's a yellow circular-saw blade coming out the top of his head, or maybe it's hair, I don't know but it's cool. He's got a sour expression, but if you don't like it you can always switch it out with the other tongue-wagging version. There is also a switch-blade, necklace, two fists, an open hand, a hand to hold the knife, and a thumbs-up hand, pretty good! The denim effect on the clothes is acceptable, the seams and wrinkles bring it to life. I wish the jacket was removable though, he'd make awesome fodder for customs then. There are rings...[See More]
Chun Li
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 1
Rated 4.50 stars by Henchmen4Hire
Chun-Li stands about 5.75 inches tall, I don't know if that's in-scale with the rest of the figures in this line, but she looks fine on display with them. Thankfully, this figure has a different sculpt than Cammy, it's a much more slender frame, though SOTA still decided to give Chun-Li some, er, "formidable" breasts. The extras in the package include: a set of open hands, a set of fists, and an extra head with that scream of joy she bleats-out after kicking-in a guy's head. Both heads are very anime-ish, with big bright eyes, just as they should be. The detail on the outfit is finely-sculpted, but it looks a little bland because this Lavender version has only white accents, the original Blue version has gold-timmings (this version still has the gold earrings though). The ribbons in...[See More]
Guile
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 3
Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire
Guile stands about 6.3 inches tall, a little taller if you count the crazy hair. By the way, how does a soldier get away with having that kind of hair while in the military? By kicking everyone's arse, that's how. The likeness to the character is spot-on of course, this is SOTA making them after all. I like the serious face more than the angry one, it looks a little like John Cena, the wrestler. This is a sturdy figure, feels like it was carved out of a solid block of wood, like T. Hawk. The details are all there, the boots are exceptional! I can't believe how neat the paint-job is despite all that detail, the camo-pattern on the pants looks good too. He's got a tattoo of an American flag on each arm and a few veins to boot. The accessories include the standard interchangeable set: a flat...[See More]
Gen
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 3
Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire
And old guy who can go toe-to-toe with Akuma? That's instant win right there. Gen stands about 5.95 inches, and is of course, fabulously detailed. Everything about him is painted (even the fingernails are a different shade than the hands) and lightly shaded. The face-sculpt is great because he actually looks like an old guy, not just a young head with wrinkles on it. The white hair and beard look good too. The pants are a darker shade of purple than the shirt and all clothing is wrinkled and creased flawlessly. Amazingly, the small feet can support this bulky figure and keep it stable. Gen comes along with 2 heads (one stern and one raising an eyebrow with a smirk, like saying "You give up already? I barely touched you!") and 3 pairs of hands! An open set, a fisted set, and a wierd...[See More]
M. Bison
Street Fighter (SOTA) - Round 1
Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire
Brain-washing, induced global famine, eco-terrorism, governmental corruption, genocide, genetic engineering...of evil, nothing is too low of a blow for this guy. Bison stands 6.5 inches tall (and a little taller if you count his fancy hat) and is made of evil and cool. This fig looks like a wrapped mound of muscle. Bison is insanely muscular (how puny little Cammy can beat him-up is beyond my comprehension, but I'll root for her all the way!) and all the muscle makes his head look tiny by comparison. I can't tell if it's just an optical illusion or not but his head looks a little too small. In any case, he is game-accurate and has great detail in the clothes. The red areas are cast with red plastic (and well-shaded) so there's no paint-rub (either that or it's painted so well that it...[See More]
