Stimpy Ren and Stimpy (Super7) - Ultimates Rated 4.60 stars by RMaster007 Everyone knows you can't have Ren without Stimpy, so here's his better half.
Stimpy's box is a lot like Ren's; no slip cover, easy to open and replace everything inside, and bigger than you'd expect from Ultimates. Stimpy gets a red box with all sorts of gunk around the window, I assume this is supposed to represent his ear or something. The packaging definitely fits with the show's gross nature, but its size can make finding a spot for it a little difficult, especially when you already have a ton of figures like me.
Standing roughly 6“ tall, Stimpy is a pretty chunky figure, but not a heavy one. His body is mostly hollow, which isn't what you'd expect a figure at a premium price point to be like, but to me, he actually feels pretty nice in-hand. The sculpt is recognizably Stimpy, and...[See More]
Ren Ren and Stimpy (Super7) - Ultimates Rated 4.55 stars by RMaster007 As far I can remember, the first I've heard of Super7 was when I found out they were doing new Ren and Stimpy figures. They caught my eye and I took interest, but I never bothered to pre-order, and ended up missing out. So when Super7 announced last year that they'd be getting a re-release, I was hyped. Now with all the Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and everything else, it fills me with joy to finally add the duo to my collection.
Ren's packaging differs from a regular Ultimate figure in two ways. For starters, there's no slip cover; just a plain window box, designed to look like Ren's hideously unhygienic mouth. Secondly, it's huge. It practically dwarfs what most of the TMNT line comes in. There's no character bio on the back; just the show's logo. The packaging is still as...[See More]
Utrom Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007 It's been over ten years since NECA's original Mirage TMNT line, and last year saw its return with plenty of characters never done during the original run of figures, such as the Utrom, which was to the original comics what the Krang are to the franchise in general, except not evil.
The Utroms hid themselves in androids resembling humans, and this is what is underneath the faux skin and clothes. Sculpted by Brodie Perkins and Josh Sutton, the mechanical details are carried over well into plastic. The skull-like head is complemented by an extra portrait that's suffered battle damage: the right eye is dangling out, and a chunk of the head has been ripped over to reveal the wires underneath. The paint work is nice, with clean black lines, and some yellow outside the eyes to create a glowing...[See More]
Armaggon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca) - Exclusives Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007 Well, this is it, after over a year, we finally got the last of the TMNT Lootcrates. We were supposed to get all of them in the course of a few months last year, but something happened to delay all but the first of them. This was supposed to be the second crate, but for reasons unknown, it ended up being the last one out. Better late than never, I suppose.
The last video game TMNT crate was entirely Turtles in Time-based, but this one adds in a bit of Tournament Fighters love, starting with the included figure: Armaggon. The packaging for him is heavily reminiscent of the SNES box for the original game, with the sides recreating the artwork using figures. The ESRB ratings box, SNES-styled NECA logo, and a "seal of approval" are included here to really make it feel like an old video game...[See More]
Leatherhead Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 4.55 stars by RMaster007 Time to take a look at a big ol' ultimate gator, by gumbo!
Leatherhead stands about 6 1/2" tall, which doesn't sound that big, but he actually has quite a bit of heft to him, hence why he comes in a larger box like Muckman and Slash do. Because of how big his tail is, it comes detached from him in the box, and you'll need to warm up the plastic to pop it on. Super7's take on him is a pretty faithful recreation of the original Playmates figure in a larger scale, with all of the details being kept, including his scaly skin. The gator's leathery jacket is a separate piece, molded out of soft plastic, as is the pants overlay on the crotch. The belt, rather than being a separate piece, is molded onto the pants, but all the little junk on it are now individual pieces. Leatherhead also gets...[See More]
Scratch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 4.85 stars by RMaster007 Being a toy collector can be a pretty costly hobby, especially in the case of TMNT. A good handful of the original figures fetch a pretty penny nowadays, especially Scratch the cat, who is worth thousands of dollars. Fortunately, Super7 has given us a cheaper option.
Scratch's sculpt, like most TMNT Ultimates, is an updated and upscaled version of the original Playmates figures. Standing around 6 3/4" tall, Scratch has a few changes to his appearance, the most notable of which being a ball and metal chain attached to the clamp on his left leg. I wish it was removable, but I can live. He also now sports a bandage on his tail and messier hair on his cheeks. The file that hangs around his neck is a separate piece now as well, but you'll have to pop his head off to remove it.
The feline's...[See More]
Blitzwing Transformers - Legacy (Hasbro) - Leader Class Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007 As the year draws to a close, it's a good time to look back at all the cool toys we've gotten this year, and this guy is one of the coolest, or at least I think so. This year saw the launch of Hasbro's Transformers Legacy line, dedicated to covering the wide history of Transformers, ranging from G1 to Beast Wars to Prime, all done up in a G1 style. I've mostly gotten the Core Class bots, but I have picked up a Leader Class: Blitzwing.
Another thing Hasbro did this year was switch over to plastic-free packaging, which means no more window boxes. What it also means, though, is that they're able to give boxes like this really cool artwork. There's even a bit of cross-sell on the right side of the box, showing off other Decepticons included in the line. As for the inside, Blitzwing and all...[See More]
Donatello (Dark Turtle) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 4.70 stars by RMaster007 To be honest, I thought we'd be seeing only one of these a year. Sure glad I was wrong.
As with last wave, the cartoon-themed crate was supposed to come last, but since the video game crate was far behind, that makes this one the third in order. This set actually has two figures, the second of which you could only get if you paid for all four crates at once. And NECA chose some nice inclusions for this crate.
The packaging for both follows the same motif as the rest of the toon line, simple yellow and green and character artwork on the front. The cross sell, rather than being for the regular release figures, is for the other LC-only toon guys. Having to deal with those plastic ties is still frustrating, and I wish NECA would do away with them.
The first figure is Donatello,...[See More]
Bebop and Rocksteady Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007 At last, I finally have them…
The thing that got me into Ninja Turtles in the first place was one of NECA's two-packs. Specifically, Bebop and Rocksteady. I decided to give them a shot and tried to nab the two off Target's website, but to no avail, and this was during a time Targets in MD rarely, if ever, got the Turtle line. There were a few other opportunities to get them online, but I passed every time. Once NECA announced they would be selling them again as part of a Black Friday sale, I jumped right on them and succeeded in obtaining the duo, filling a hole in my collection.
Bebop is sculpted by Trevor Zammit, and has been given everything he needs: jacket, necklace, wrist and waist chains (made of real metal), shoulder pads, and grenades. The sculpt is very accurate to how he...[See More]
Krang Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 4.65 stars by RMaster007 What are the odds that the fifth and sixth waves of TMNT Ultimates would drop around the same time? Eh, the fifth wave was long overdue anyways, which also means this guy was overdue.
Krang, the evil brain from Dimension X, was one of the main villains in the original cartoon and toyline, so why it took five waves for Super7 to do him is beyond me. The brain here is about 1 3/4" tall, and 1 1/2" long and wide, a good deal bigger than I thought he would be. He's clearly an updated version of the old toy, with modernized details and very clean paint. Since Super7 likes to do alternate heads with a lot of their Ultimates, a second Krang is included here, with a wide-open mouth and waving tentacles, and it's definitely a nice inclusion. His tentacles are swivel/hinge joints, and can be...[See More]
