Marge & Maggie
Simpsons (Jakks Pacific) - Basic Series
Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007
It's already been a year since Jakks Pacific first revealed they got the Simpsons license, and they've been treating it very well. Figures have been coming out at a quick rate as well, with wave three having come out in this past January if I'm not mistaken. I haven't had much luck finding it at Target or Walmart, but I went to GameStop not too long ago and to my surprise, they had the whole 5" wave. Up until recently, they only had the Premium figures and electronic items, so it's great they're getting in more product now. The MVP of this wave is Marge, completing the core family. We already got her in the 2.5" line, so making that sculpt twice as big presumably wasn't too hard, and she turned out the best of the main five in my opinion. Although she has the same blank happy stare as...[See More]

ThunderCats (Super7) - Ultimates
Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007
Thundercats was a pretty standard 80s action cartoon: you had a group of heroes facing off against a supervillain and their henchmen on a daily basis, with some child characters and a funny animal sidekick thrown in. Season 2 shook things up a bit with the inclusion of not only more Thundercats, but a new group of villains known as the Lunataks. They didn't work for Mumm-Ra, and also didn't get along as well as the Mutants did, but nevertheless presented new problems for the heroes, and were well liked by fans. Super7 waited until wave 8 of their Ultimates to start doing them, but my first Lunatak, Chilla, is the second one they've put out. The Lunataks had some pretty funky designs, and Chilla is the most humanoid of them, but she shared some of the same design aspects as the others,...[See More]
Krusty Burger Diorama
Simpsons (Jakks Pacific) - Dioramas
Rated 4.35 stars by RMaster007
It's always nice to get little playsets for your figures, since it adds more to a display. Jakks Pacific has done a couple of playsets over the years, and nowadays they're doing them for their smaller-scale lines, which is good for those wanting to save on space (and money). The Simpsons line already got a diorama of the family's home, and recently they put out Krusty Burger. If you're looking for it, I'd check GameStop and Macy's rather than Target or Walmart, since those are where the newer stuff has been popping up first. This diorama, like the earlier Simpsons' home, consists of a base and two walls, one long and one short. The roof is present on the longer wall, and the sign plugs into it. Said sign utilizes a sticker, as does the window, with silhouettes of Chief Wiggum and Lou...[See More]
Beetlejuice (Tour Guide)
Beetlejuice (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007
I feel we've all heard of Beetlejuice, be it through the film or the animated series, and there's no denying he's the ghost with the most. I've seen both the original film and its sequel twice by now, and they're both great horror-comedies. NECA's had a bit of history with the first film, as it was the first line of figures they've made, and now we're getting Ultimates. The first Ultimate for him is this "Bio-Exorcist" outfit which, while not as iconic as his striped suit, was his main look for most of his screen time. The front flap of the box depicts what looks like a flyer for Betelgeuse's (pronounced Beetlejuice) services, with an aged, unfolded appearance. The movie logo is a sticker in the upper right corner, and it can be removed if you so desire. As per usual, there are photos of...[See More]
Guerrilla Gorilla
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!
Rated 4.55 stars by RMaster007
Super7's TMNT Ultimates line has featured a wide selection of characters, mainly well-known figures from the vintage toy line, but a few deep cuts as well. New figures of more valuable vintage releases like Scratch and Undercover Raphael, characters lifted from the Mirage comics like Karai, and unique variants and new looks added more variety to the line-up, but then there's Guerrilla Gorilla, a character that isn't any of that. He came from the lesser-known TMNT Magazine by Welsh Publishing in the early 90s, and until now, it's unlikely most fans of the franchise knew who he was or the source material was. You'd be forgiven for thinking he's something Super7 just made up, but no, he's an actual character, and he finally has a figure. In order to fit in with the rest of the line's...[See More]
Kevin Eastman (Garbage Man)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Exclusives
Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007
As we all know, last year was TMNT's 40th anniversary, and more than a few companies were celebrating. NECA knew just how to honor the milestone, and while they put out a SDCC-exclusive two-pack of the initial Turtle designs, followed by a redeco for mass retail, NYCC saw them going a step further and making a figure of co-creator Kevin Eastman. This figure apparently comes from a deleted scene from the 1990 movie that was reduced to, I believe, a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo. Now that's a deep cut! Since Eastman worked as a garbage man in the film, it's only fitting that his box art be modeled after a dumpster. It's designed to have some age on it, with plenty of rust, stains, and graffiti, and the motif in general is really nice and unique. This is a window box with a fifth-panel flap,...[See More]

Beastie Boys (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007
In the midst of all the nostalgic characters, Super7 has put out some pretty impressive music-themed figures in their Ultimates line. I've gotten a couple of them, including Notorious B.I.G., Lemmy Kilmister, Cliff Burton, Czarface, and the Slayer Minotaur, and they all turned out surprisingly good. One of the latest music releases is the Beastie Boys, in their outfits from the Sabotage music video, having shipped out just as 2024 ended. They've done a few ReActions, but these are the first Ultimates of the band, and I believe the first "wave" of music figures that has more than one. Since Super7's (mostly) stopped doing slip covers for Ultimates, it allowed them to change up the packaging a bit. The Ultimates logo is right on the front of the box, rather than on the top, and the...[See More]

Masters of the Universe - Classics (Mattel) - Basic Series
Rated 4.40 stars by RMaster007
I've already covered a figure from Mattel's MOTU Classics line, but it was from the cartoon-accurate "Club Grayskull" line, and it was by Super7. Not long after getting that one did I get a proper Mattel one in Buzz-Off. He was one of the few my local toy store had, and the one with the best price during their Thanksgiving sale, so hey, why not? Having been sold directly through Mattel online, the Classics figures came in somewhat unique mailer boxes. It's very simple, being white with a grayscale logo and the character's name, and not much else. Inside the box is a plastic bag placed over a cardback for the figure itself. The graphics are nice, including a character bio and cross-sell on the back, and I had no issues getting everything out. Much of Classics' designs were meant to be...[See More]
Sludge
Transformers - Studio Series (Hasbro) - Movie
Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007
It's been a long time since I last talked about one of the Dinobots from Hasbro's Transformers Studio Series, but now that they've released the last one needed, and I now have all five in the Leader format, it's time to finish up these reviews. Sludge was the third one released, so he'll be the third one I talk about. Sludge came after Hasbro decided to try out plastic-free packaging, so his box is a lot different from Grimlock and Slug/Slag. It isn't a window box, but rather a big illustration on the front, depicting the Dinobots' rescue of the other heroes from the Quintessons and Sharkticons. We still have the movie-themed backdrop on the inside, and it's meant to be for the figure rather than just part of the box. Inside of a plastic tray, we have a cardboard one that everything is...[See More]
Slithe
ThunderCats (Super7) - Ultimates
Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007
Getting into a line late has its drawbacks, Super7's Thundercats Ultimates line being a good example. It wasn't until around when wave 10 or 11 got revealed that I started getting the figures, missing out on some of the long sold-out figures and exclusives, including Slithe. He was $45 at release, before the Ultimates price hike, and he's now worth up to $150 on eBay. The thought of getting him was priced out for me, but guess who happened to be one of last year's Christmas gifts? The Reptilian leader of the mutants isn't a pretty face, but we all know how good Rankin-Bass was at designing all sorts of strange creatures. Slithe has a great portrait, done by Four Horsemen Studios, in one of the first Thundercats figures they did for Super7 and not Mattel. He has big, fin-like ears, making...[See More]
