ML's are DYING! What r u gonna do? in Action Figure Chatter by Redmist
Monday, August 16, 2010
   [Edit]
Actually, I think of ML's(Marvel Legends) as a loved relative who's on life support. This saddens me 'cause this line kicked major @s$ and inspired many imitators and let's not 4get it STILL makes up around 95% of the customs on this and other sites!

I've seen that Hasbro showed off some future 2 pks that look pretty sweet, but 2 me that's not enough. I mean 6 inchers aren't all dying since loads of people are willing to shell $18 on DC figs(Which aren't as nice...imo their molds are 90% identical like not everyone has Supes physique C'MON! )

So on to my subject question: It does seem(heavily) like ML's are dying...what are u gonna do? Cop some more expensive DC figs? Or move on to the hot new (and...[See More]

FAST FWD TO 2018 & We're all singing a different tune about Hasbro!
Night & FREAKIN' DAY! 2010 those were some dark days...now Hasblow er, Hasbro done picked up the rebound & scored some major touchdowns & grand SLAMS!

On a personal level, it sux 4 me cuz I don't have the funds nor the space to keep collecting, but Damn it feels good to be a gangsta!(Or Toy Collector.)

Personally I say move with the times, if that's all thats available we have to use them. I bought some 3.75 joes the other day just to have a go with them and see how that works out. If it's bad I've always got the WWE and there countless moneymaking figures to fall back on. Besides, I reckon it will be a while before most of the more common legends become stupidly expensive and hard to find. We will find a way!!!!!

Diamond Select Dracula question in Custom Workstation by PREDATARRRR
Wednesday, September 5, 2018
   [Edit]
I've been thinking about getting the Diamond Select Dracula figure to add articulation to and have a question about its scale, does anyone know how similar in size it is to Diamond Select's Phantom of the Opera figure? Specifically, any of the more articulated ones? I'm not sure if there's a scale difference between their more statue-esq ones and the more articulated ones. If they're about the same size, The Phantom's arms and legs would work perfect. Thanks in advance....[See More]

Im not sure what glue it is but i imagine super glue, ive heated the helmet up and tried to pry it off but it accomplished nothing. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!...[See More]

Or you could use a hair dryer and a xacto knife.

Well, paint thinner or mineral spirts, but I have found that enamel thinner works for removing or weaking glues and various adhesives, but be careful simply because it can eat away some of the plastic or paint.

Have you ever used that stuff to weaken the glue used inside the figure, on the pegs? Torso cracking is one of the most frustrating things we do, but if we can dunk the figure in mineral spirits or something to dissolve the glue, we could crack open torsos easily.

Dissembling Female Marvel Legends in Action Figure Chatter by Thigrslayer
Friday, August 24, 2018
   [Edit]
Hey everyone, I'm working on a body swap between the female beetle and mockingbird. Just trying to exchange the upper body from each but keep their respective arms. Can I crack the upper torsos like the male bodies? Also are the arms ratchet joints or simple interchangeable joints (by simple I mean pull as hard as you can to pop them out lol). Any tips would be great. Thanks - Thigr...[See More]

Both Mockingbird and Beetle have soft plastic upper torsos, so it's just a matter of heat and pop, either dunk them in boiling water or heat them up with a hair dryer and pull them apart. If you've never done this before, just remember it will take a few minutes of heating to get the plastic soft enough to pop off of the larger torso peg, if it doesn't come off with a moderate amount of force keep heating it until it does. The arms, which have smaller pegs will pop off before the torso will, but the same applies, if they aren't coming out relatively easily, continue heating, otherwise you can rip the upper arms off the shoulder pegs if you use too much force. Anyway, I've found that sometimes there are subtle differences between parts on the Marvel Legends figures, especially with upper t ...

Everything is basically interchangeable between the two. The real struggle will be shaping the wonderwoman multiverse joints to fit in the marvel legends female mold. Regardless, now I'm one step closer! - Thigr

How to make figures more customizer-friendly in Custom Workstation by Henchmen4Hire
Updated Monday, August 13, 2018
   [Edit]
In the Action Figure Chatter section I posted about how I was disappointed with a recent Kickstarter focusing on making blank human figures for customizing. Everyone who makes these kind of figs never seems to address the problems with customizing them. So, instead of complaining some more, I wanted to post ideas for how to rework figure joints so they're more customizer-friendly.

First up is how to make hinges easier to disassemble. These are found at the elbows, knees, etc.

On the left you can see what a typical current hinge rod looks like. On the right is an idea for how to reshape the rod so it can be pushed in and out more conveniently, without the need for heat.

Added image for wrists. Not sure it offers much though, I don't see anything wrong with just having swappable hands via the wrist pegs like we do now. I'd just add the 1mm gap to prevent paint rub, as shown before.

Would also switch the starburst holes to polygonal shapes (like a hexagon) to increase durability since it eliminates any little teeth.

need some help with marvel select and legends trench coat. in Action Figure Chatter by Devil of Hells Kitchen
Wednesday, August 1, 2018
   [Edit]
I recently got the older Marvel select Gambit but I really wasn't liking the trench coat piece it came with so I removed it. I Don't need to make sleeves cause they're molded onto gambits arms. I'm not to sure how to execute this so any help will be appreciated. Also if anyone knows how tom make a trench coat for a legends punisher it'd be appreciated if you could give me a quick tutorial on how to make one....[See More]

Well,I always use the marvel legends nick fury or spider man noir sleeves and trench coat, but you could always use the noir jacket piece and leave the sleeves or resculpt the arms when needed. Now for softgoods, I would use spandex or heavy cotton simply because they don't fray as bad as cotton, of course I would make it a size smaller, that way it can fit a bit tighter, and work itself around the articulation. But cut it in two halves and add the sleeves and then sow the two halves together, it will look more realistic. hope this helps

It helps to look up free patterns for clothes, then resize them as needed. Recently I had to make a big cloak and did it this way.

Sometimes you can even simplify the process since you can glue instead of sew, you don't have to hem everything, etc.

For example, trenchcoats are usually two halves stitched together, with the lower halves stitched on too, but I'm sure you can make the trenchcoat with one piece of fabric. You'll just have to measure for the arm holes, cut it out and slip it on. ...
Scanning heads for customs - How badly do you want it? in Custom Workstation by Henchmen4Hire
Updated Thursday, August 2, 2018
   [Edit]
Hey peeps, in all honesty, would you buy high quality 3D printed heads?

I've been chatting with someone who sells 3D printed items, they can use a resin printer to print excellent heads at about $5 to $10 a pop.

However, to take it a step further, we're talking about buying a 3D scanner, to scan ANYTHING to rescale it to ANY size

The advantages of this?:

-All those small GI Joe and Star Wars heads can finally be easily upscaled. All those Hot Toys heads can be downscaled. The amount of unique heads we would have to work with goes up exponentially.

-Accessories can be created from anything! He could scan a TV or a bottle or a backpack or shoes, and make them accessories for any figure.

-If you have custom sculpts you want to duplicate,...[See More]

You can upscale/downsize existing figures thru "traditional" casting and molding techniques as well. Just saying. I've done it for a bunch of items in my eBay store. Upscaling 3.75" heads to work with Marvel Legends and SW Black Series, as well as downsizing Hot Toys heads to work with the 6" scale figures. It can be an expensive and time consuming process, sure, but it's totally doable. I hope to get a bunch more stuff done.... someday.... lol
