Figure Heights in Custom Workstation by 9r1441n
Sunday, February 9, 2020
   [Edit]
Is there a database somewhere that lists the heights of action figures?
I'm working on some customs right in between 5.5" and 6" and thought I'd be safe with anything listed as 6" scale, but a lot of these figures are stretching closer to 7". It doesn't sound like much, but it's really noticeable when you started with a doll just shy of 6".
I don't have a specific line in mind (I started with superheroes but am now looking at WWE females) so any info is greatly appreciated....[See More]

Nothing I'm currently aware of, unfortunately. It can get rather frustrating when basically any figure between 5" to 7" is listed as 6", been a few times I've run across a "6 in" figure online which had just the parts I wanted for a custom, only for it to be either too small or too big for what I was working on.

Considering selling old toy collection 1980's/90's. in Trading Post by Cloud 9nd
Updated Sunday, February 16, 2020
   [Edit]
Hello, I have old random collections of toys I am thinking of selling / trading off. I might trade most / all for some old Gi-Joe collection (82-89).

I will get pics up and or go through if I want to keep somethings or see what interest there is here. I'm finding it hard to find places to sell, I don't ant to do EBAY and I don't feel comfortable with CL.

Thanks for looking.

Painting joints. in Custom Workstation by Spindlejack
Updated Friday, February 21, 2020
   [Edit]
Hi everyone. I’ve been doing a bunch of repaints and I’m pretty happy with my paint jobs but every figure seems to have one or two joints where the paint rubs off. Not sure if a coat of sealant would help or if the joint would just rub that off too. 😢😥 Any input would be appreciated....[See More]

Thanks for the info. I hate to start grinding because of my shaky hands lol but I think your right.

Joint rub is always tricky. Luckily there are a few tutorials on the Realm to help you out.

Myself I try to use joints that match the paint I'm using when possible. If that's not an option then you'll have to put some prep into it.

Definitely check out the tutorials for more details, but in essence what you'll be doing is grinding down the joints so they don't rub when moving them, painting them, and then applying superglue over that to protect the paint. Whatever superglue you use though, test it out first on the paint. Some brands like KrazyGlue actually melt/dissolve acrylic paint, so figure that out first. Gorialla glue is extremely resilient, but difficult to use, since if you apply even a little too much it will foam up. I recommend a different brand, one that dries clear without ...
Gloss effect in Custom Workstation by Mister Skeezler
Monday, February 10, 2020
   [Edit]
Hey all,

I'm working on a Catwoman custom using the new DC Essentials Knighfall Catwoman. I want to give her thigh-high boots and long gloves a high gloss latex looking finish, while keeping the purple parts of her costume more matte. The last time I attempted a gloss finish was using ArdCote on a repainted ML figure's legs, and her legs are still tacky two years later. Ideally I'd like to avoid that with this figure. Any thoughts on how I could achieve a gloss/matte combo on this figure? I use acrylic paints, and seal with DullCote. I'm thinking the tackiness is probably in the ArdCote and DullCote combo, so I'm hoping to avoid that here, while still getting a good protective seal on the matte parts....[See More]

I've always had great success with Vallejo Mecha Varnishes. They are airbrush ready but can also be painted on. Acrylic based and strong as heck.

It can, but it's pretty thin as is since it's airbrush ready.

Excellent, thanks! Can the gloss be diluted slightly with water to get a more even spread? I'll be using a brush for this.

I think he cobbled it together from an assortment of parts. You could email him and ask, Loose and his staff are extremely pleasant individuals. You could also post a pic as he made this back in 2015 and people may have forgotten what it looks like.
Sea King in Custom Workstation by TomatoisJP
Thursday, February 6, 2020
   [Edit]
So I'm slowly upgrading my JLA/CSA shelf over to the forever evil line, just for the variety of characters. However, I'd also like to do a Sea King as part of it, which is a little tougher.

My intent is to use one of the Essentials Aquaman figures as a base (I'm hoping to get the DCeased figure on the cheap down the line) with bits from an Aquaman movie figure, including a Momoa head if I can find one with decent sculpt. However, I'm not sure how to do the armored left arm. I suppose I could sand/sculpt lines into one of his arms, but I'm wondering if anyone here knows how well the joints work with ML or MS parts in case I can save time with a colossus figure....[See More]
