Bart Gunn's wrestling career took shape in the independent circuit, where he formed a successful tag team partnership with Billy Gunn. Their chemistry caught the attention of the WWF, leading to their debut as the Smoking Guns in 1993. The duo quickly established themselves as a prominent force in the tag team division.

By 1995, the Smoking Guns set their sights on the WWF Tag Team Championships. They achieved their goal on the January 23 episode of Monday Night Raw, capturing the titles. Their reign lasted a few months before they were dethroned by Owen Hart and Yokozuna. However, the Gunns didn't stay down for long. On the September 25 episode of Raw, they reclaimed the Tag Team Championship from Hart and Yokozuna, holding the titles until February 15, 1996, when they were obliged to relinquish them due to Billy's need for neck surgery.

During Billy's absence, Bart's presence at WWF shows became scarce. However, in May of 1996, Billy made his return, and the Smoking Gunns went on to win the WWF Tag Team Championships for the third and final time. This victory marked the beginning of their association with the manager Sunny. As Billy and Sunny's on-screen romance blossomed, tensions grew between Bart and Billy, straining their partnership.

The team's title reign came to an end at In Your House 10: Mind Games in September 1996 when they were defeated by Owen Hart and the British Bulldog. The aftermath of the loss saw Sunny abandon the team, further fueling the animosity between Bart and Billy. Eventually, the Gunns disbanded and found themselves embroiled in a bitter feud. However, the feud was temporarily halted when Billy suffered a neck injury during a match on Raw in December. It wasn't until June 1997 that Billy returned from injury and triumphed over Bart in a match on Monday Night Raw.

Following his defeat to Billy, Bart parted ways with the WWF and embarked on a wrestling journey with the NWA. However, his return to the WWF came in 1998 as part of the NWA invasion storyline. Bart formed a new tag team with Bob Holly, adopting the monikers "Bodacious Bart" and "Bombastic Bob" to pay homage to the legendary Midnight Express. After several months, both men participated in the Brawl for All tournament, which Bart ultimately won. Despite his victory, Bart was kept off television for six months before ultimately losing to Bob Holly in a hardcore championship match on Raw.

At WrestleMania 15, Bart faced Butterbean in a boxing match, which concluded in just 35 seconds with Butterbean securing a knockout victory. Following his defeat to Butterbean, Bart Gunn decided to leave the WWF and pursue wrestling opportunities in Japan.
