Princess Komand'r was born lacking the flight ability of other Tamaraneans, thus considered crippled and unfit to rule. She grew jealous of her younger sister Koriand'r and tried to turn her into a slave. Both sisters were captured by the Psions, whose experiments gave them the ability to shoot solar blasts. When the sisters escape, Koriand'r goes to Earth where she joins the Titans as Starfire, while Komand'r takes over Tamaran as Blackfire.
