Hank Pym originally created the Yellowjacket persona due to a complete mental breakdown. After recovering is sanity, Hank alternately re-took some of his other old identities (Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath) but never the Yellowjacket one as he had not forgiven himself for what he did during that time. It was only when Hank made peace with that part of his life that he donned the Yellowjacket identity again.
