Q is a member of an all-powerful super race of omniscient beings, the Q Continuum. Little is known about the species or its origin. Q has the ability to manipulate time and space. He materializes and de-materializes at will. His behavior is sometimes juvenile, always unpredictable, and often dangerous. Q has been known to manipulate and endanger living beings for his own amusement. He has been reprimanded by others of his race for capricious acts. Q is exceptionally mischievous and prone towards testing the mettle of Starfleet command officers, specially Captain Picard. Although highly annoying and disruptive, Q is rarely lethal in behavior.
